A focal review focuses on performing an entire department’s performance reviews at the same time. Each department within a company may have a different time of year for their focal date review. This allows for more regular strategic check-ins at an organizational level on successes and course corrections.
Benefits of focal reviews:
A focal review allows the manager to dedicate one section of time to evaluating performance, which means that employees are not held to different measures of success depending on where the team and company are with profits, goals, and accomplishments. Focal reviews can be used in conjunction with semi-formal, regular check-ins to provide continuous feedback to employees.
